PANORAMIC PHOTOGRAPHY? These panoramic images are known as 'segmented' images and are created by merging together a sequence of individual frames. Each separate segment is acquired by high quality digital still camera attached to a specialist panoramic mount which carefully regulates the angle of rotation, and minimises the amount of parallax error, between adjacent segments. An average 360 degree panorama will contain between 24 and 60 separate segments each of which is stitched and blended by hand. The final image is seamless yet each segment bears evidence to the fact that a short amount of time has passed since the preceding segment was exposed. We frequently try to include some slight anomalies of time such as a figure appearing twice within the same scene. This can be quite a talking point when visitors suddenly notice these impossible situations and try to deduce how such a thing could exist.
